MEP Trade Package
The refurbishment of the old Halifax Library to a new 6th Form college was a major challenge given the constraints of the existing concrete framed building. The modernisation of this building included creating a glazed atrium to flood natural light through the building, increase the amount of natural light through enlarged glazed facades and the development of a hybrid natural and mechanical ventilation system to provide a first class teaching environment.
Working on the development of the MEP design with Buro Happold, KNG provided all aspects for the mechanical and electrical installation through the constraints of an existing structure, with exposed ceilings to circulation areas and inclusion of a new sprinkler system. KNG were also responsible for the delivery of the vertical transportation system.
The contract was delivered through a unique construction management approach providing openness and transparency for the client, the design team and the trade contractors. The successful delivery of the project allowed Trinity College to open its doors for the start of the 2020 academic year despite the impact of the Government Covid restrictions during the construction phase.
